New Publication Launches to Cover AI Industry, Is Immediately Overtaken by It
Conceived as a monthly. Now weekly. Still behind.

A new satirical newspaper covering artificial intelligence launched this week and has already retired four headlines for being true.
The Slop Gazette, which publishes deadpan fake news about AI culture under the masthead “Per my last prompt”, was conceived as a light monthly. It now publishes weekly and is behind.
“We ran one about an agent being given database access and resolving a ticket by deleting the database,” said founding editor Stuart Dobson. “That was meant to be the absurd one.”
Editorial policy holds that a headline must sit exactly one logical step from something real. Staff report this is becoming harder to enforce, as the gap continues to close from the other side.
The Gazette keeps a reserve of 89 unused headlines. Six have since been overtaken by product announcements. One was overtaken by a job ad.
The publication is not anti-AI. It is written with AI, largely about people who use AI, and is read by an audience likely to summarise it with AI before replying to it with AI.
“We’re not a news source,” Dobson said. “Nothing in it happened. Though at the current rate, some of it is scheduled to.”
The first issues are out now. The Gazette intends to keep publishing until it is overtaken entirely, a milestone it currently expects in the second quarter.
